UBBC are very lucky to have such strong links with alumni who provide support for the club in many ways. If you are an ex-UBBC member and would like to become an active member of the UBBC Alumni, please speak to Tom Davies, Adam Mackenzie (details below) or the Director of Rowing.

Chairman - Chris Hartley
Chris Hartley captained the club in 1982 and 1983 winning a BUSA medal and leading a Ladies Challenge Plate entry to Henley Royal Regatta for the first time in almost thirty years. He was awarded the first Bristol "Red" for rowing - the equivalent of the Oxbridge Blue.
In 1984 Chris led a UBBC composite crew on a US tour, racing and winning at Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Rutgers and Georgetown. The crew won the prestigious Head of the Potomoc in Washington. Following graduation, Chris founded the UBBC Alumni, to help ensure a continuity of support and contact for and from past UBBC oarsomes. Chris now lives and works in Australia, but maintains a keen interest in the Alumni.
Deputy Chairman - Dan Hatfield
After competing as a GB junior international Dan rowed for UBBC between 1992 - 1994. During his time as UBBC Captain he contributed to the formation of the UBBC Alumni and worked with his counterparts at the University of the West of England to initiate the first Bristol Universities Varsity Boat Race.
Since graduating in 1995 with a BSc Joint Honours in Economics and Politics he has worked for IBM in various consulting and project management roles. Whilst his rowing days are over he keeps himself active with triathlon, running, and bringing up his three children!
Membership Secretary and Treasurer - Tom Davies
Tom was a member of UBBC from 1997 to 2000, rowing in the Men's Senior Squad in all three years. He was UBBC Captain in 1998 - 1999, and then Secretary in 1999 - 2000, as well as assisting with the coaching of the Men's Novice Squad in 1998 - 1999.
Since graduating Bristol with a BA in Classics, he has been working in banking, first at Rothschild,
and now at UBS, currently dividing his time between London and Milan. He can be contacted at

Fund Raising - David Phillips
David was a member of UBBC from 1996 - 1999, beginning in the novice squad before joining the men's squad and also serving first as Club Captain and then Club Secretary. David raced twice at Henley Royal Regatta in the UBBC first VIII, in 1998 and 1999.
Since graduating in Law from Bristol, David continued his legal studies in Oxford, where he also coached rowing, before joining Herbert Smith in London.
Newsletter Editor - Adam Mackenzie
Adam was a member of UBBC from 2005 - 2009, joining the club as a novice before moving up to the senior squads. He became club captain in his final year at Bristol, coinciding with both UBBC's and the university's Centenary.
Since graduating from Bristol with an MSci in Chemistry, he has taken a year out to coach rowing
at a boarding school in Dorset. He can be contacted at

Liz Hatfield
Liz was a member of UBBC from 1990 - 1993, starting as a novice and then rowing in the women's squad. She was women's captain in 1991/2. After stopping rowing due to academic commitments, she was actively involved in the setting up of the UBBC Alumni.
She completed her medical studies in 1994, and now works as a General Practitioner. She is a member of the ''I met my other half at UBBC'' Club, and married Dan Hatfield in 1998.
Ed Renwick
Ed was a member of UBBC from 1996 - 1999, beginning in the novice squad before progressing to join the men's squad.
Ed graduated from Bristol with a BA in English, before pursuing a career as a corporate lawyer. He currently works for Macfarlanes.
